DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 950B with rare 2B serial #, 23J, 16S, gold-filled OF original Hamilton Model 11 case, white enamel DS dial with Canadian market 13 to 24 hour indications, time-zone hour hands, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, mono-metallic balance with Elinvar hairspring, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#2B798. The 2B serial number prefix is notably rare among Grade 950B production, with only 100 total made spanning serial numbers 2B701 to 2B800 which are listed in the Hamilton ledger with finish dates between August, 1943 and January, 1944. This 2B prefixed serial number sequence was originally intended by Hamilton for the production of a 23 jewel Grade 998B movement for the Ball Watch Co, and to this end 800 dial plates were produced with this serial number sequence. Ultimately though the concept for the 23 jewel Ball 998B was abandoned with no regular production examples made, so these 800 dial plates were then completed with serial numbers 2B001 to 2B700 as 21 jewel Ball Grade 999B and with serial numbers 2B701 to 2B800 as 23 jewel Hamilton Grade 950B. From the collection of Dr. Robert Restuccia.
